Moving right along: Another fantasy update

Your author is hard-pressed to think of something that can cause an immediate loss of interest quite like hearing about someone's fantasy team. Having friends and co-workers recite their rosters with no real purpose other than to gloat about conquering leagues you're not involved in seems quite banal and pointless, no?

That said, the author knows full well that you the dear reader probably also couldn't give two shits about whatever fantasy team he's gone and created after so many years of taking that road less traveled where non-participation seemed cooler. Now the author has multiple fantasy teams, and while he tries mightily not to bring those into the other posts here on BMC that you might actually read, every once in a while, if for no other purpose than to help him remember who he had on such teams in a given year, he likes to keep a recorded entry of how he's done.

This is one of those times. Your non-interest in the remainder of this post is understood.

I'm not quite as pressed for time as I was this morning, but I had meant to post an update on the fantasy teams like I'd been doing every two weeks. So while I'm tired of the layout and excess commentary, let's just sum things up about the last fortnight of fantasy action by saying that I haven't been avoiding posting because of too much bad news. Actually, on the football front, it's been nothing but successful. Let's get into it.

Here's how the Tumblr league stood after nine weeks:

Yup, tied for best record in the league. And here's the changes I made along the way those past two weeks:

Blair White managed to be both added and dropped over the course of the past two weeks—and he'll likely be dropped again. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Here's how I achieved victory in Week Eight, with my biggest point-earner being the Rams defense (!?!?)—and also assisted by my opponent's roster being composed almost entirely of single-digit earners:

And in Week Nine, again my defense was the key as the Packers went nuts on the Cowboys and made that position once again play the biggest role on my team:

Now over in the Yahoo league, I once again managed to get above .500 by winning two in a row:

I'd be willing to say the transactions made during this time were a bit quieter than most two-week periods:

Again, Blair White's making multiple appearances, but the addition of Jacob Tamme is almost certain to alleviate many of my headaches with the tight end position.

In Week Eight, I managed to win in spite of David Gettis putting up a negative number for the week. But my opponent could only manage two players in double-digits that week:

That, of course, was good enough for my third time with this honor:

Week Nine, I got to beat up on my sister's team thanks in large part to four of her players putting up goose eggs:

Now, contrary to what I said at the end of the last update, it appears that I won't be the only one making adjustments to my roster in the fantasy basketball league. While I indeed started off on a winning note, I'm afraid that I dropped the next and am in fourth place despite having the second-most points in the league:

Here's the first transactions I've made to that team:

Indeed, the next game after I dropped Luol Deng, that guy went out and put up 40. Needless to say, somebody else swooped him up pretty quickly, and—as you can see—that spot's becoming something of a revolving door now on my roster.

Still, here's how I achieved victory in Week One:

And Week Two's loss:

Now, what stands out to me most about fantasy basketball updates right now is that you can't even see the totals earned by individual players, so that makes these screencaps somewhat pointless. I don't know how often I'll continue to include them, but the other thing to remember about fantasy basketball that I think is far more critical than fantasy football is that in this eight-team league, everybody's going to make the playoffs. So, really, I've only now come to realize that there's not much reason to make too many drastic revisions right away. I'm content to stick with the team I've got now that I've played three of the league's top-scoring teams in the first three weeks. The next four should be decidedly easier—if I don't suffer another spate of injuries.

Still, the inclusion of turnovers and technical fouls as being of positive value irks me and it's another one of those scoring quirks that helps in making it more and more obvious to me why football is king of the hill of all the fantasy sports—although I'm still interested in competing in baseball too. Football still gets the best amount of participation, trash talk, and most leagues only have minimal variations in scoring.

I'm not quitting on the basketball business, by any means, but I'm obviously just frustrated by some rough early luck with injuries and scheduling not going in my favor, thus turning to complaints about scoring as reasons for why I "won't care" if I finish low. But as I concluded by saying last time, there's still a lot of season left and like I said earlier in this write-up, everybody makes the playoffs. So indeed, anything really could happen.
